“ANMA” WITH TERRY LIEW
MARCH 18th – 31st 2008

Visiting therapist Terry Liew is an experienced Master of the art of ‘ANMA’ – a traditional Japanese massage, which dates back to 5000 years ago and was brought to Japan from China via the monks.

Anma can be described as a more complete form of Shiatsu, (which people are more familiar with). There are 2 parts to this massage form - the Yin and the Yang. The Yin part involves the pressure points to stimulate the body and the Yang part involves deep pressure kneading and rubbing techniques to release tension in the muscles and the bone. The ANMA method is to treat the body to first release tension in the back - so that blood will flow smoothly from the head to the toes - and then apply pressure to specific pressure points to stimulate and energise the body.

Shiatsu came out of this from the Yin part, which promotes basically pressure point work

“I find the ANMA Massage technique the most effective that I have seen. Although I have picked up good skills in other forms of massage – I still remain true to the core principals of traditional ANMA. There is no need to incorporate anything else as I find it adequate enough and by itself it is a complete discipline.”

In 1997 Terry set up his training school (The Shiatsu School) in Singapore to train people in this technique and to promote the healing arts and share with as many people the benefits of this ancient therapy through workshops and courses.

Terry’s work has taken him to all corners of the globe including America, London and Europe and in Asia, - Malaysia, Taiwan, Bali and Thailand.

Among some of the many well-known Spas that have been trained by Terry Liew are:

Benefits of ANMA
Head helps with ordinary headaches, migraine, neuralgia of the back of the head, trigeminal neuralgia, heaviness in the head and climatic disorders

Face helps with the facial appearance and nervous facial paralysis, eyes, nose and relieve stuffiness of the nose and sinusitis, eyestrain, drooping eyelids – actually ‘lifts’ the face and prevents sagging skin and facial muscles.

The facial work also helps with facial paralysis and has been adapted it to include facial and spa products like cleansers, scrubs, masks and moisturisers. It may feel like a facial, but the difference will be visible after the session as you will be able to see a “face lift”. This happens because the face is "sculpted” during the massage - the facial muscles are worked upon in a manner that puts them back into place. The result is a higher definition to the face and making it look younger. The skin will also feel tighter.

This will last for about 2 weeks - a routine maintainence every two weeks is ideal.
