Aqua Yoga offered at Ananda in the Himalayas
October 16, 2005- Ananda in the Himalayas has an innovative and popular program called Aqua Yoga. With views of the Himalayan foothills and the fragrance of the mountain air as inspiration, Ananda Aqua Yoga takes place in the property’s blue-tiled, comfortably temperature-controlled swimming pool.
“Ananda Aqua Yoga uses the healing power and support of water to enhance basic yoga moves,” said Ram Kumar Gupta, Senior Yoga teacher of Ananda in the Himalayas “It is a pleasure to be in the water and working out, stretching to buoyancy. Aqua Yoga is also helpful to people with limited mobility, allowing them to experience the joys of Yoga.” Scheduled group and private classes are available.
The Aqua Yoga Philosophy
- Water is well known for its therapeutic qualities. De-stressing with warm baths, relaxing in the tranquil waters of a clear pool, sitting by a river and watching it flow are tried and true methods of calming the body and stilling the mind.
- The human body is 75 percent water, and so this element naturally serves as a generic relaxant.
- Aqua Yoga allows ease in movement and flexibility.
- The water resistance in Ananda Aqua Yoga increases the effectiveness of the postures allowing a gentle strengthening of joints, muscles and ease of movement.
- The combination of yoga and exercise in water enhances in-depth toning of muscles and facilitates deeper breathing for greater relaxation.
